One of the leading institutions of higher education in Lakhimpur district, Sankardeva Mahavidyalaya has come a long way since its inception in 1982 on the hilltop of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh boarder under the leadership of well known social worker Late Bhabendra Kumar Saikia and many other dedicated local people. Situated at an easily accessible location along the National Highway 15, the college has been able to provide a sustainable momentum to the efforts to provide quality education to the student community of the tribal sub-plan area. The College has celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 2007, has contributed significantly to the academic and cultural life of the region. The college was permanently affiliated to Dibrugarh University and got 2(f) and 12(B) affiliation of the UGC Act. The college was “provincialised” by the Government of Assam in December 2005 under the Assam College Provincialization Act.
